Admission process

A careful, transparent process to make sure SOLA is the right fit — for your child, your family, and us.

01

Step 1: Apply and Connect

Submit an application and tell us about your child — their learning profile, experiences, and what brings you to SOLA. We will schedule an introductory conversation with our team to get to know your family and answer your questions.

02

Step 2: Assessment

To ensure SOLA is the right fit, we arrange a professional pedagogical and psychological assessment. This may include an IQ assessment (we typically work with children testing around 130 and above) and an evaluation of gifted learning characteristics.

If your child has already been assessed or diagnosed by a certified specialist or recognised practice, we are happy to accept those existing reports — no need to repeat what has already been done. If your child has not yet been assessed, our in-house child psychiatrist, Dr. Christine Kuhn, can carry out the full diagnostic process together with our team.

03

Step 3: Trial period and decision

Before a final placement, your child joins SOLA for a three-month trial period. This is a mutual exploration — for your child, for your family, and for us — to ensure the fit is right on all sides. At the end of the trial, we make the final admission decision together with you and your child.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

  • Does my child need a giftedness diagnosis before applying?

    +

No. A diagnostic report helps us understand your child more quickly, but if none exists, we can carry out the assessment ourselves as part of Step 2. We do not require families to obtain diagnostics before approaching us.

  • We do not live in Pfäffikon. Is that a problem?

    +

No. We expect children to come from across Central Switzerland — Zürich, Zug, Schwyz, Einsiedeln, Rapperswil, and beyond. Pfäffikon is well connected by public transport.

  • From what age do you accept children?

    +

From Klasse 1 (typically six years old). We do not currently plan a kindergarten programme.

  • Can my child transfer to a Swiss public school or Gymnasium after SOLA?

    +

Yes. We follow Lehrplan 21 as our foundational curriculum, which means SOLA students remain anschlussfähig to Swiss public schools, Gymnasien, and Berufslehre pathways.

  • What if our family cannot afford the school fees?

    +

We are committed to making SOLA accessible. Please get in touch — we discuss financial situations confidentially and separately from the admissions decision.

  • What happens if SOLA is not the right fit for our child?

    +

We will say so openly, and where possible suggest other schools or settings that might work better. We would rather have an honest conversation early than have a family arrive somewhere that doesn't suit them.

Ready for the first step?

The first step is a conversation — one hour of your time, no test, no decision pressure. We listen, describe our school honestly, and explore together whether SOLA is the right place for your child.
